Initial sharpening and re-shaping.

Re-shaping the cutting edge from a common angled edge to a hollow polished edge.
To develop the finest and sharpest edge possible, the Firestone Knife Sharpener uses counter-rotating wheels to produce a razor-sharp edge without burrs.

For each pass, a 6-inch (15 cm) long knife takes approximately 3 seconds to pass through the slot. A longer blade will take longer; for example, a 10-inch (25 cm) blade will take approximately 5 seconds.
